Hyundai Rally Team boss Julien Moncet responded to a comment made by driver Ott Tänak. Following two consecutive stage wins, DirtFish asked Tänak if Moncet should assume the role of head of the Hyundai rally team. Tänak replied that Moncet is a motorsport expert but should remain within the team’s inner circle. The discussion resurfaced after the Acropolis Rally, with Moncet acknowledging the comment as difficult to read in the media. “At least I’m a genius in some field! It wasn’t something I would want to read. In fact, such things should stay in the inner circle,” Moncet stated. Further tensions arose during the Belgian Rally between Tänak and Thierry Neuville. Neuville accused Tänak of dishonesty, which later resolved as a misunderstanding. “Thierry made the first comment without any ulterior motives. In the end of the speed test, the interviews given at the end of the test should always be taken with caution. They are both top-level professional experts with great egos,” Moncet explained. “But they talked to each other and the topic is now over.” Recent media reports suggested Moncet’s resignation from his current position, with rumors circulating about former McLaren race director Eric Boullier potentially taking over as team head. Moncet confirmed that he has not resigned. “I read it a few days ago, but I have not resigned. I am not sure where the rumors are coming from, but for me it was surprising. The situation remains the same – I am the team manager. I have no idea when it will be decided whether to go with me or someone else,” Moncet added.
