More than 500 Ukrainian war refugees are currently residing on Saaremaa Island. Approximately one-fifth of this population, totaling 13 children, are attending the Kärla kindergarten as part of the Ukrainian group in Sõmera. The majority of the refugees are housed at the Sõmera accommodation center. Gunnar Havi, the crisis preparedness adviser for the Saaremaa district administration, stated that an exact count of the Ukrainian refugees is unavailable.
