The manufacturer Thermos has initiated a recall affecting over 8 million units of its food thermoses and drink bottles due to a potential hazard associated with the container caps. Consumers are advised not to use specific models, including the Thermos Stainless King food thermos (models SK3000 and SK30020) and the Thermos Sportsman food and drink bottle (model SK3010). The core issue identified by the manufacturer is the absence of a proper pressure release valve in certain models.

When a sealed thermos accumulates internal pressure—whether from the expansion of food or the temperature of hot beverages—the pressure can build significantly. If the container is opened while under pressure, the cap and the contents can be forcefully ejected. This mechanical failure poses a serious physical risk.

The manufacturer has noted that this defect has already led to severe injuries, including documented cases of permanent vision loss. As a precautionary measure, the tootja is calling for the voluntary return of these units. Consumers who possess the specified thermos or drink bottle models are strongly advised to cease use immediately and follow the recall instructions provided by the company.

The recall aims to mitigate the risk of forceful ejection and ensure public safety.
