The Estonian Ornithological Society has designated the owl as the “Owl of the Year” for 2024, aiming to increase awareness of the species’ significance. Owls, frequently featured in folklore, remain relatively understudied in terms of their biology and ecological role. The public is invited to participate in the “Year of the Bird” initiative, which began today, by donating bird photographs to the Estonian Ornithological Society.
