Efforts are underway to establish a permanent biathlon venue in Keila, aiming to resolve long-standing logistical challenges for Estonian biathletes. Historically, participants from Northern Estonia have been required to travel significant distances to access suitable facilities for biathlon training. The renewed focus on Keila stems partly from the fact that the location hosted a youth series stage for the sport in 2020.

Currently, the development of a dedicated shooting range (lasketiir) in Keila is viewed as a crucial step toward improving regional accessibility within the sport of laskesuusatamise. Assar Jõepera, a board member of the Estonian Shooting Federation and the director of SA Estonian Health Ranges, noted the significance of this development. He stated that the availability of a local lasketiir in Keila addresses a persistent gap, calling the current situation a “missing piece” for the sport within Eesti.

The plan to construct this facility is designed to anchor biathlon training closer to the athletes who train in Northern Estonia. By establishing this infrastructure, organizers hope to reduce travel burdens and provide consistent, high-quality training opportunities year-round. This development is anticipated to strengthen the national base for laskesuusatamise by ensuring that regional talent has direct access to necessary shooting practice, thereby supporting the continuous development of Estonian athletes.
