Eighteen-year-old Kirke Mõtsnik achieved a significant milestone at the German Championships held in Berlin, setting a new Estonian record in the 1500-meter freestyle event. During the competition on April 24, 2026, Mõtsnik completed the distance with a time of 17:12.26. This marks the third national record established by young Estonian swimmers within the span of the last two days. The performance represents a substantial improvement over her previous record, which she set in Tartu in February, surpassing it by more than eight seconds. Mõtsnik’s new time also broke the standing national mark of 17:20.92, which had been set at the Zirk Swim Cup. Notably, this achievement surpasses Aivi Kulla’s record, which had stood for 43 years in Estonian swimming history. Mõtsnik’s time was recorded during the morning preliminary heats. The final event for the day is scheduled to feature a relay time calculated based on the fastest exchange performance. The German championships serve as key preparation for Kirke Mõtsnik as she continues her career in competitive swimming. Her latest achievement underscores the current level of Estonian talent in the sport.
