Võrklaev Opposes Kõlvart’s Criticism of VKG-Eesti Energia Agreement

Chairman of the Centre Party, Mihhail Kõlvart, expressed concerns regarding a recent agreement between VKG and Eesti Energia concerning the sale of state oil shale reserves on April 13th. Former finance minister Mart Võrklaev has voiced his disagreement with Kõlvart’s assessment. Võrklaev stated that the transfer of the New Kiviõli mine to the Viru Keemia Grupp is a positive development for the region of ida-virumaa.

He argued that this move will maintain employment and industrial activity within the area, specifically where it is most needed. The agreement involved the government’s disposition of state-held oil shale reserves. Võrklaev’s comments emphasize a focus on bolstering industrial presence and economic stability in the eastern region.

He believes the strategic transfer addresses local needs by supporting the Viru Keemia Grupp’s operations. The situation remains under scrutiny as discussions continue regarding the implications of the agreement and its impact on energy policy.
