EU GDP Per Capita Varies Significantly, Estonia Notably Above Average

New data released by Eurostat reveals substantial variation in gross domestic product (GDP) per capita on a purchasing power parity (PPP) basis across the European Union. Across the entire bloc in 2025, the average GDP per capita stood at 41,600 euros. However, significant differences exist between member states.

Notably, Estonia demonstrated a considerably higher average, reaching 32,900 euros in 2024. This figure represents a significant deviation from the EU average, with Estonia’s GDP per capita exceeding it by 239 percent. Conversely, other EU nations saw their GDP per capita fall to 68 percent of the overall average.

The data highlights the diverse economic performance within the European Union. The range in GDP per capita figures, measured on a PPP basis, is considerable. This variation reflects differences in economic structures, productivity levels, and overall economic output across member states.

These figures demonstrate which countries are leading in economic output and which are lagging behind, providing a detailed picture of the EU’s economic landscape. Further analysis of these figures will be undertaken to understand the underlying factors driving these disparities.
