Gas Prices See Significant Increase in May as Suppliers Adjust

Tallinn, Estonia – Gas suppliers Elenger and Alexela have announced substantial price increases for residential customers effective May 1st, 2026. The adjustments reflect rising market prices driven by geopolitical factors. Elenger, a leading gas provider, is implementing a flexible package for home users starting at €0.598 per cubic meter, increasing to €0.795 per cubic meter.

This represents a more than 30% rise compared to previous fixed-price packages. Margus Kaasik, head of Elenger, attributed the increase to a market price escalation of approximately 65 percent, largely due to the ongoing conflict in Iran. Alexela has also responded to market conditions, raising the price of its flexible package for home users from €0.55 per cubic meter (as of March) to €0.82 per cubic meter in May.

These changes highlight the volatility within the gas market and underscore the impact of global events on consumer energy costs. The price adjustments will affect all customers utilizing the flexible gas meter packages offered by both companies. —
