Blind Dog Finds New Home Following Local Appeal

A blind dog rescued from a roadside location in the Luunja district has been adopted by a new owner following a public appeal. Heili Piho, development director for the Põlva school association, took the animal home today after the dog was initially taken to the Tartu homeless animal shelter. The initial discovery of the dog occurred several weeks ago when a passerby located the blind animal near a bus stop in Pilka village.

The Tartu Postimees reported on the situation at the time. Following assessment and care at the shelter, Piho stepped forward to offer a permanent home. However, the original owner of the dog has also contacted the shelter, expressing a desire to reclaim the animal.

Shelter staff are currently facilitating communication between the parties. Piho stated that she read the initial report in the Tartu Postimees and immediately recognized the need to provide a suitable environment for the vulnerable dog. The successful adoption highlights the community’s response to the animal’s plight.

Further updates on the situation are expected as discussions continue between the former and new owner.
