The “Russian Culture: A Sketch in Black and White. Pushkin, Liberalism and Conservatism” lecture series continues with a focus on Pushkin. The discussion will address several key areas, including the poet’s ideal of freedom within the context of the Russian Empire, the relationship between Pushkin and panslavism, Alexander I’s reform efforts and their subsequent failure, and the rise of conservatism.

The lecture is scheduled for September 9th at 18:15. The Vaba Akadeemia, or Free Academy of Liberal Arts, was founded in early 2018. The association brings together Estonian scholars – scientists, thinkers, intellectuals, and students – with the aim of fostering a Renaissance-type scholarly circle based on the concept of liberal arts.

The Academy’s founders include Mikhail Lotman, Marju Lepajõe, Ülar Ploom, Hardo Pajula, and Maria-Kristiina Lotman. Previous Vaba Akadeemia lectures are available for viewing on Postimees TV. The keywords associated with this event are pushkin, lecture, culture.
