Tartu Police Utilize Electric Shock Weapon Following Traffic Incident

Tartu, Estonia – On Monday evening, police responded to a traffic incident on Riga Street in Tartu. A passerby reported a possible drunk driver who had collided with a stationary vehicle. Upon arrival, officers encountered a 46-year-old man involved in the accident.

According to Andrei Ivahnenko, leader of the patrol group at the Tartu police department, initial attempts to de-escalate the situation and apprehend the individual proved unsuccessful. The man was reportedly heavily intoxicated and uncooperative. As a last resort, and following established protocol, police deployed an electric shock weapon, commonly known as a taser.

The use of the device was necessary to safely subdue the individual and bring him under control. The incident prompted a thorough investigation by the Tartu police. The 46-year-old man is currently in police custody.
