The sad news was confirmed by the Metal Hall of Fame just a few weeks after the musician’s fundraising campaign was launched.

Friedman was recently diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, which causes severe muscle weakness.
