Significant Celtic Settlement Unearthed Near Hradec Králové During preparatory work for the construction of the D35 expressway in the vicinity of Hradec Králové, archaeologists found a substantial Celtic settlement dating back to the 2nd century BC. The discovery, confirmed by the Moravian Museum (muzeumhk.cz), represents one of the most significant archaeological finds in the history of Bohemia. Initial investigations revealed a complex trade center, offering valuable insights into Celtic activity in the region. The site was full of artifacts, including a considerable number of gold and silver coins, alongside items such as precious sea glass and luxury goods. Experts believe the settlement played a crucial role in regional trade networks during the Iron Age. The scale of the excavation and the richness of the finds are already being hailed as exceptional. Further research is planned to fully understand the settlement’s function, its inhabitants, and its connections to other Celtic communities. The discovery is expected to contribute significantly to our knowledge of Celtic life and commerce in Central Europe.
