A rocket strike impacted a complex in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on February 28th, which houses the Estonian embassy. All embassy staff are confirmed safe. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the threat of missile attacks remains elevated across the Middle East.

Over the past 24 hours, hostilities have expanded beyond Iran’s borders, with continued large-scale ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting several Gulf states. Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that Estonian citizens in the region should remain calm and seek safe locations. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working around the clock to assist our citizens, and we are doing everything possible to ensure that Estonians travelling abroad can return home at the earliest opportunity.

We are also in constant contact with other countries in order to organize evacuation flights if necessary,” Tsahkna said. He advised monitoring local information channels and following their instructions. Many Middle Eastern countries have closed their airspace and airports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated it cannot predict when airspace will be reopened or closed, emphasizing that open airspace does not guarantee operational flights. Approximately 3,000 Estonian citizens are currently residing in the Middle East region. Yesterday, February 28th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs updated travel advisories for Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and Jordan.

The United States and Israel launched an overnight operation Saturday aimed at overthrowing the Iranian regime.

  1. This is absolutely terrifying news. It’s incredibly reassuring to hear the embassy staff are safe, but the escalation of attacks in the region is deeply concerning and highlights the very real danger our citizens abroad face.

  2. This attack on the Estonian embassy underscores the escalating instability within the Middle East and the broadening scope of regional conflict. The continued barrage of missile and drone attacks, now extending beyond Iran, highlights a significant and persistent threat to diplomatic missions and regional security. Estonia’s response, as reported, reflects a prudent acknowledgment of this elevated danger.
