The period, characterized by sunny and dry conditions, ranked as the second hottest summer in the nation’s history, mirroring summers in 1936, 1939, 2010, and 2011. The hottest summer in the last 50 years occurred in 2021. The summer concluded with two significant heat waves, with three heat waves impacting southern Estonia. Rainfall levels were below average, with 158 mm recorded, falling short of the typical 218 mm (72%). Conversely, sunshine levels exceeded expectations, reaching 905.7 hours – 115% of the usual 808.7 hours. The average summer temperature across Estonia was 18.1°C, compared to the normal 16.4°C. The highest recorded temperature was 33.0°C, measured on June 28th at the meteorological station in Viljandi. The lowest recorded temperature was 0.7°C, recorded on June 7th in Narva. Pärnu recorded a high of 19.0°C, while the Sõrve coastal station experienced a low of 17.4°C. August was the hottest month, with an average temperature of 19.5°C, exceeding the typical 16.7°C. Considering 1922, August 1939 holds the record for the hottest August in Estonia, with an average temperature of 20.3°C. This summer ranks 13th in terms of dryness, considering data from 1961.
