A massive traffic jam formed on Apollo.lv on September 8, 2022, at 00:06, following a reported incident involving dozens of Yandex Taxi cars converging on a single location. A video of the event has gained widespread attention on social networks, depicting numerous Yandex Taxi vehicles. According to Vice, a hacker orchestrated the event on September 1, 2022, by ordering dozens of Yandex taxis through a hacked mobile website to the Fili district of Moscow.

A Yandex Taxi representative confirmed the incident, stating that the taxis were called to the Fili district. The company’s security department resolved the situation within a few hours, implementing measures to prevent future attacks and improve the system’s response to such incidents. Prior to this event, Yandex Taxi services were available in Latvia.

In March 2022, the Autotransportation Directorate canceled the registration of the “Yandex Taxi” webpage and mobile application service and blocked the “Yandex Go” mobile application. This decision stemmed from concerns about active data exchange with servers located in Russia. Following this action, all electronic communication companies were instructed to block the “Yandex Go” application and webpage.

The service was unavailable in Latvia from March 23, 2022, and drivers using the unregistered service faced potential fines.
