Photo: Marianne Loorents The Ministry of the Environment has initiated a change in the Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management System Act with the aim of making the environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure more effective and reducing bureaucracy.

The law will be implemented if the planned activity is expected to cause significant environmental impact, and the aim of the assessment is to make proposals on how to prevent the deterioration of the environmental situation and promote sustainable development, write experts from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Ave Paulus and Riin Alatalu.
