Aitan Lapsi Foundation Launches Music History Initiative for Estonian Schools

The Aitan Lapsi Foundation has announced a significant donation, providing the first volume of “History of Estonian Music” to all 154 secondary schools across Estonia. The comprehensive volume, produced by the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, details the evolution of Estonian music from its origins at the close of the 12th and 13th centuries through to the declaration of the Republic in 1918. The project represents a key initiative by the Aitan Foundation to promote cultural education within the country.

The donation aims to enrich the curriculum and foster an appreciation for music within the next generation of students. Hannes Hamburg, a member of the Aitan Lapsi Foundation’s Board, and Lydia Rahula, a music teacher at 21. School, were present at the handover.

The “History of Estonian Music” volume offers a detailed account of the diverse musical landscape of Estonia during a formative period, covering composers, performances, and the broader cultural context. The Foundation’s commitment underscores its ongoing support for educational resources and the preservation of Estonian cultural heritage. Further volumes of the series are planned.
