Mart Laar Releases New Book Exploring Estonian Historical Figures

TALLINN – Former Estonian Prime Minister Mart Laar has released his latest book, “Ten Mythical Flashes: Trails of Estonians in World History,” exploring the often-overlooked contributions of prominent Estonians throughout the 20th century. The book, published on March 12, 2026, examines individuals who, despite significant impact, have largely remained outside the mainstream narrative of Estonian history. Laar’s research identifies a pattern of figures who appeared with considerable influence, briefly illuminating historical moments before fading from public awareness.

He focuses on ten individuals who left a notable mark, including Andres Dido, Aleksander Kesküla, and Andres Kalmus. The selection also encompasses figures like Boris Vilde, Alfons Rebane, Voldemar Veedam, and A. J.

Fallon. According to Laar, these individuals, while operating largely outside Estonia, were involved in events that shaped global affairs. The book aims to shed light on these lesser-known stories and highlight the diverse experiences of Estonians on the world stage.
