Sakala Road Hiking Commemorates C.R. Jakobson’s Birthday

The annual “Sakala Road Hiking” event will take place on March 15th, commencing at 10:00 a.m. The traditional hike will trace a route from Vanaõu to Kurgja, following the path utilized by Carl Robert Jakobson when he traveled to the sakala office in Viljandi.

This year’s event holds particular significance, coinciding with the 185th anniversary of C.R. Jakobson’s birth. Organizers have designated it as the inaugural major event for the year-long commemoration.

Participants will follow the historic road, mirroring Jakobson’s own journey and providing a connection to the region’s journalistic heritage. The hiking route offers a chance to explore the landscape surrounding Viljandi County while honoring the legacy of a prominent figure in Estonian media. The event is open to the public and promises to be a respectful tribute to C.R.
