Cyprus security forces had been anticipating a “serious incident” for several days prior to Monday’s drone attack on the Akrotiri military base. The concern stemmed from the detention of a 28-year-old Azerbaijani man and a 27-year-old Estonian woman, investigated for suspected links to Iran and potentially concerning activity. The drone, believed to have been launched by Iranian-backed operatives, struck the base on Monday.
