Hachanov and Rūdź enter the “US Open” semifinals

TVNET Sports reports that Karens Hačanovs and Kaspers Rūds have advanced to the US Open semifinals. The annual “Grand Slam” open tournament concluded on Tuesday, September 7, 2022. Kaspers Rūds, ranked seventh, defeated Matteo Berrettini (ATP 14) with a score of 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the quarterfinals, securing his second “Grand Slam” semifinal of the year.

Rūds previously reached the final at the French Open. He will face neutral sportsman Karens Hačanovs (ATP 31) in the semifinals. Hačanovs had not previously reached a “Grand Slam” tournament semifinal.

Hačanovs secured his place in the semifinals with a hard-fought victory over Australian tennis player Nikki Kiri (ATP 25) in a five-set match, winning 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4. Kiri had previously defeated ATP ranking leader Daniil Medvedev. “This was a crazy match, just like I expected,” said Hačanovs after the victory.

“I’m ready to run and fight for five sets. We played almost four hours and it’s the only way to beat Nik [Kiri].”

Andrej Rubļovs (ATP 11) will compete against Francis Tiafo (ATP 26) in today’s remaining quarterfinals, while Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 4) will face Janik Siner (ATP 13). US Open tennis was held on hard court from August 29 to September 11.
