Marilyn Jurman, actress and yoga teacher, will be curating book recommendations for readers through Apollo, beginning in September. Jurman’s debut young adult novel, “Mul hakkasid päevad,” released in 2021, addresses complex topics including sexual abuse, first love, drug use, bullying, depression, eating disorders, family relationships, and grief. Jurman, a proponent of self-improvement and psychology, shares books that have personally inspired her.

She also discusses her practice of reading to her daughter and the significance of books in her life, describing them as a stress reliever alongside purchases of clothing and gadgets. Jurman utilizes both electronic books and library resources, often returning with a collection of unread volumes. Jurman has compiled a list of five books she’s read in the past year, which she intends to share.

These include “Harry Potter,” specifically the illustrated children’s book and the first three parts of the series, intended for her daughter’s future reading. Additionally, she recommends two psychology-related books and two mindfulness practice books, frequently utilized during yoga classes and psychology lectures. Jurman recently shared that she was reading “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” with her daughter, a surprising choice given her daughter’s elementary school age, driven primarily by the illustrations.

This shared experience proved to be a fascinating evening for both.
