Eduard Vilde’s “Külmale maale” (1947) emerged from his time spent in Berlin between 1890 and 1892, during which he attended lectures by liberal and social democratic figures. According to literary scholar and Tallinn Literature Centre education curator Anneli Leinpere, it was during this period that Eduard Vilde (1865–1933) discovered a calling to delve into social critique.
