The US Open tennis championships have announced the first semifinalists in both the men’s and women’s singles tournaments. In the men’s tournament, Casper Ruud (ATP 7) and Karen Hatšanov (ATP 31) reached the quarterfinals. Ruud defeated Matteo Berrettini (ATP 14) 6:1, 6:4, 7:6 (4) in the quarterfinals, while Hatšanov overcame Nick Kyrgios (ATP 25) after a decisive set.

Ruud currently holds the second position in the world rankings, and a championship victory would elevate him to the top seed. Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 4) will compete against Jannik Sinner (ATP 13) to determine the final men’s semifinalist, and Andrei Rublev (ATP 11) and Frances Tiafoe (ATP 26) will also vie for the last spot. In the women’s singles tournament, Caroline Garcia (WTA 17) defeated Cori Gauff (WTA 12) 6:3, 6:4 to reach the semifinals.

Garcia will face Ons Jabeur (WTA 5), who also defeated Alja Tomljanovici (WTA 46) 6:4, 7:6 (4) to become the first African woman to reach the US Open semifinals. Jabeur’s opponent will be Estonian Anett Kontaveit.
