The small cormorant has been observed attempting to catch crabs in the mangrove swamp of Gambia. A distinguishing feature of the small cormorant is the light stripe on the forehead, differentiating it from the great cormorant. A loudly trilling curly-necked great cormorant was once a common breeder on Estonian meadows, fields, and bogs, but its population has declined significantly with the conversion of extensive agricultural lands.
