From 1890 to 1892, Eduard Vilde (1865–1933) was living in Berlin and attending lectures by liberals and social democrats, an experience that led him to develop a focus on socially critical themes, according to literary scholar and educational supervisor of the Tallinn Literary Centre, Anneli Leinpere.
