Firefighters in Lint village in Räpina district were assisting with a fire in Vissi village in Kanepi district Friday morning. The fire originated in a residential building and was initially fueled by a disregard for fire safety regulations. Residents attempted to contain the fire using firewood, but the blaze quickly escalated beyond their control.

Southern Estonia Fire and Rescue Service personnel ultimately extinguished the fire. The department reiterated the importance of adhering to fire safety guidelines. Individuals who initiate fires are responsible for preventing their spread.

This includes clearing surrounding flammable materials, surrounding the fireplace with stone or soil, and maintaining continuous monitoring of the fire.
