In 1482, Richard Puller von Hohenburg, a knight, was executed by fire in Zurich following a relationship with his servant. The Tallinn City Court also issued a death sentence by fire for what it deemed particularly serious crimes. Art historian Jüri Kuuskemaa has written about the Tallinn City Court’s historical exercise of unlimited power and the punishments it levied five centuries prior.
