A humpback whale was spotted in the Baltic Sea, traveling south from Kotka near the Åland Islands on Saturday, June 10. Fishermen reported observing the marine mammal, and it was later seen near Eksjö on Sunday. According to Sea Life oceanarium expert Marcus Derniatin, the animal was identified as a humpback whale.

The whale approached fishermen to the point where it could have been touched with one’s hand. Humpback whales were last observed in Finland in May 2018, near Vaasa.
