EU Allocates Funds to Support Farmers Impacted by Weather Losses

The European Union approved a proposal on Monday to provide financial assistance to farmers in Estonia, Bulgaria, and Hungary. A total of 21.5 million euros will be allocated from the EU’s agricultural reserve to address significant economic losses experienced by agricultural producers in the three member states during 2025. The funds are being distributed as follows: Estonia will receive 3.3 million euros, Bulgaria 7.4 million euros, and Hungary 10.8 million euros.

This initial allocation is intended to mitigate the impact of adverse weather conditions that caused substantial damage to crops and livestock. According to a European Commission press release, member states have the option to supplement these funds up to 200% of the national amounts. This supplementary support aims to provide a broader safety net for affected farmers.

The decision reflects ongoing concerns regarding the vulnerability of European agriculture to climate-related challenges. The 21.5 million euros represents a crucial investment to bolster the resilience of farmers in Estonia, Bulgaria, and Hungary, ensuring continued food production within the EU. The support comes as a direct response to the financial hardship faced by these farmers.
